This is a version of Share-to-Unlock Prize Scam in Lottery / Prize.

Fake Students Laptop Scheme 2026 page promising free laptops to students who register

A message says "The Applications for the Students Laptop Scheme 2026 Is Available" and that "Over 960,000 students will be given free laptop", and claims students who applied "have started getting their laptops". Its short link opens a page titled "STUDENTS LAPTOPS SUPPORT 2026" with a banner reading "FREE LAPTOPS FOR STUDENTS 2026 APPLY ONLINE". The page asks for your full name, education level and a choice of laptop brand, accepts anyone aged 10 to 50, and asks a simple sum "to prove your age" before sending you to a second step. It was first observed on November 3, 2026, through Kenyan short links on lr[.]ke and bsly[.]ke, and the page names no school, government or company behind the scheme.

What’s different in this version

These traits set this message apart from the usual pattern.

  1. The prize is a free laptop for students instead of a gift card or cash, and the offer is framed as a scheme for students who cannot afford one.

  2. The page accepts anyone from age 10, so children are among the people it is meant to reach.

  3. The form asks for full name and education level and lets you pick a laptop brand from Lenovo, Dell, HP, Toshiba, HCL and Asus. A sum, "5+1-2=", is presented as an age check.

  4. The page names no school, ministry, company or contact. Its only statement about who runs it is "We are not connected to any other brand."

  5. The message and links used two Kenyan short-link services, lr[.]ke and bsly[.]ke. The page's own sharing details point to another address, on a .lk domain.

  6. The second step, where pages like this usually ask you to share the link with friends or groups or give more details, was not captured. How the message was sent was not recorded.

How this scam works

  1. 1

Step 1: You receive or open a page that uses a well-known brand name and says you have won a prize.

  2. 2

Step 2: The page asks you to share it on social media or with multiple groups or friends through messaging apps before you can claim the prize.

  3. 3

Step 3: The shared link may use an unrelated web address and take recipients through another prize or reward page.

  4. 4

Step 4: The page may later ask for personal details, payment information, or additional actions to release the supposed prize.

✓ Do this

  • Close the page and verify promotions through the brand's official website or app, opened independently.
  • Warn anyone you may have sent the link to so they do not open it or share it further.
  • Report the message or page through the service where you received it, then delete it.
  • If you entered information or payment details, contact your bank or card provider and change any reused password through the official service.

✗ Avoid this

  • Do not share the page with groups, friends, or family to unlock a prize.
  • Do not enter personal, account, or payment information on an unfamiliar prize page.
  • Do not trust a brand logo, countdown, comments, or claims that other people already received the reward.
  • Do not use links from the page to verify the promotion; find the official brand website yourself.
