This is a version of Fake Government Portal Refundable Fee Scam in Impersonation / Social Media.

Fake Bangladesh e-Passport name correction page that asks for your name, phone number and a supposedly refundable 9 taka fee

A shortened link (shorturl[.]at) leads to correction.correction-center[.]sbs, a page titled "Apply for Name Correction - e-Passport Portal". It copies the Bangladesh e-Passport Online Portal, with the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and Department of Immigration & Passports logos. A notice says your name in your passport application does not match your NID (national ID) or BRC (birth registration certificate) and asks you to enter the correct name and your contact number. A second notice says the correction is free but that "to confirm your identity we will charge 9tk and this will be refunded." The page is not run by the Bangladesh government.

What’s different in this version

These traits set this message apart from the usual pattern.

  1. The page copies the layout of the Bangladesh e-Passport Online Portal, including its green header, the government and Department of Immigration & Passports logos, an English and Bangla language switch and text size buttons.

  2. Its footer links point to the real epassport[.]gov[.]bd site, so clicking them makes the page feel genuine, but the form itself sits on correction.correction-center[.]sbs.

  3. The page claims there is a name mismatch between your passport application and your NID or birth registration certificate. No actual problem with an applicant's records was established.

  4. It asks for only two details, your name as on your NID or BRC and your phone number, plus an "I am human" box styled like hCaptcha.

  5. It claims the process is free apart from a 9 taka identity charge that it says will be refunded. No refund or completed payment was documented.

  6. The saved page includes a hidden payment window, but its contents and the behavior after submission were not captured. The payment method, any destination for money or submitted details, and how the link reached people were not established.

How this scam works

  1. 1

Step 1: A link leads to a page claiming there is a problem with a government application or record, such as a name that does not match an ID.

  2. 2

Step 2: The link opens a page that copies the official portal, with the government's logos, colours and links to the real website, but the form sits on an address the government does not use.

  3. 3

Step 3: The page asks for a few details, such as your name and phone number, and says the correction is free apart from a small identity check fee that will be refunded.

  4. 4

Step 4: The fee claim encourages you to continue. A promised refund is not proof that the charge is legitimate. In the documented variation, the payment window contents and behavior after submission were not captured.

✓ Do this

  • Check any problem with an application by typing the official government website address yourself or visiting the office in person.
  • Look at the full web address before entering details and check it against the address published independently by the relevant government agency.
  • If you already paid or shared payment details, contact your bank or mobile wallet provider straight away.
  • Report the page and the message that linked to it to the agency being copied.

✗ Avoid this

  • Do not pay a fee through a link you were sent, even if the amount is very small or called refundable.
  • Do not trust a page because it shows government logos or links to the real government site.
  • Never share a PIN, password or one-time code to confirm your identity.
